“The story reads like a movie . . powerful and intoxicating … and sinfully sexy. GRIP has everything—dynamic characters, soulful plot, and a lesson at the end that will change the way you look at life. One of my favorite reads this year. Maybe ever. 5 massive, gripping stars from me!” — Adriana Lock, USA Today Bestselling Author

So, it appears I’m in the minority here with this book. And I’m going to be honest with you.

This book is freaking high on the angst, and where it fell in line with my hormones, it didn’t allow me to put up with a lot of angst and people making stupid stubborn decisions. Seriously, when my uterus wants to rip me apart slowly I just find my tolerance for people -fictional included – really short.

I mean this book is very well written and takes a lot of hot button issues out there today and deals with them in a very head on approach that I rather appreciated.

I think, personally that you don’t need to read Flow to read Grip, you get the week from Flow summarized throughout Grip and I think I could have done without it, because it felt redundant to me. Which actually drove me pretty insane because why did I read the prequel if it’s explained again in the actual novel.

I am going to try read this book again when my hormones are a little more leveled out, and if my thoughts on the book change I will be sure to come back and update this review.

grip-ebookResisting an irresistible force wears you down and turns you out.
I know.
I’ve been doing it for years.
I may not have a musical gift of my own, but I’ve got a nose for talent and an eye for the extraordinary.
And Marlon James – Grip to his fans – is nothing short of extraordinary.
Years ago, we strung together a few magical nights, but I keep those memories in a locked drawer and I’ve thrown away the key.
All that’s left is friendship and work.
He’s on the verge of unimaginable fame, all his dreams poised to come true.
I manage his career, but I can’t seem to manage my heart.
It’s wild, reckless, disobedient.
And it remembers all the things I want to forget.

The vast majority of this book was 3 star read for me, I felt like I was missing the element that everyone else was raving about, but the end of the story bumped it up and I believe this must be the reason why everyone was so in love with it.

I have tons, and I do mean TONS of highlights for this book. Just some really great lines, but at times I felt like we just had a lot of flowery writing and not a lot of substance. I realize that this is a prequel and that we will need all of this information to fully understand the full length novel, Grip. But at times I felt like the story was dragging and I really wanted more depth to the story.

I’m anxious to see where the next story goes and if it will live up to the hype.

“At the top of the world, so close we could almost touch the sky and with only the stars watching, I found out what a kiss should be.”

flow-ebookIn 8 years, Marlon James will be one of the brightest rising stars in the music industry.
Bristol Gray will be his tough, no-nonsense manager.
But when they first meet, she’s a college student finding her way in the world,
and he’s an artist determined to make his way in it.
From completely different worlds,
all the things that should separate them only draw them closer.
It’s a beautiful beginning, but where will the story end?

FLOW is the prequel chronicling the week of magical days and nights

that will haunt Grip & Bristol for years to come.

“Ryan continues her streak of amazingly accessible and authentic romantic fiction. Grip is a bold and unapologetic look at interracial romance and does not shy away from any of the ideals and prejudices that most of us are too polite to acknowledge – head on- amidst one of the sexiest, and most provocative true love romances Ryan has penned to date. Break out the fans folks, Grip is aptly titled and sure to make you need a grip! — Sheena, Smexy Books
